VET² Supply Chain Project Management Certificate Program
The SCPM program was developed by faculty at the Georgia Institute of Technology’s Supply Chain and Logistics Institute in response to the workforce board identifying “Project Management” and “Supply Chain Logistics” as high demands skillsets for the Coastal Georgia region.
The VET² SCPM program covers the new national Supply Chain Management Principles body of knowledge and integrates this content with the Veterans Education Training and Transition (VET²) program content. The program is in alignment with the LINCS certification program and prepares students to sit for the national Supply Chain Principles exam.
Additionally, the program focuses on introducing and applying PMI body of knowledge concepts specifically in the Supply Chain & Logistics business domain. Emphasis is placed on challenges with managing change, transformation, and project management in the complex, multi-functional supply chain environment where coordination with internal and external partners is crucial. Emphasis is also placed on managing vendor/supplier selection and management processes in the supply chain environment.
Given the complex nature of supply chain management and veteran transitions, it is important for students to understand how to objectively manage selection processes (carriers, warehouses, suppliers, etc.) and how to develop an effective “plan of action” for a successful transition to the logistics industry – the program includes case studies and tools tailored to addressing these processes.
This program consists of five GTPE courses consolidated into one comprehensive three-week course:
LOG3210P - Supply Chain PM Fundamentals (3-days): Supply Chain Management projects can span a wide range of project types including supply chain strategy, network analysis, facility design build, supply chain technology selection and implementation, and continuous process improvement initiatives. This course provides a fundamental overview of project management methodologies as applied in the supply chain environment.
Class discussion and projects provide an understanding of how fundamental PMI approaches and industry best practices can be used to effectively manage the complexities. Supply chain projects typically require managing resources, stakeholder alignment, risk management, customer impact, and effective communication across many internal and external business partners.
LOG3211P - Supply Chain PM: Vendor Selection & Management (3 days): This course provides a fundamental overview of the PMBOK knowledge areas of project integration and procurement applied in the supply chain vendor selection and management process. To keep pace with the continuous moves toward outsourcing of operations and the advancement of technology, companies need to focus on selecting the right suppliers and partnerships to provide the most value to their customers and to remain profitable.
This course provides the knowledge, skills, and tools to ensure that you are selecting the right supply chain partners (including 3PL’s) based on your business goals. Emphasis is placed on understanding alternative techniques for supplier selection including applied quantitative decision making techniques.
LOG 3212P - Effectively Managing Supply Chain Transformation Projects (3 days):This course conveys an integrated view to supply chain transformation incorporating elements of change management, test plan development, project management techniques, and establishing effective project management teams.
Complex supply chain transformation requires managing resources from many different departments, ensuring internal and external stakeholder alignment, mitigating large amounts of risk, and implementing communication, risk mitigation, and change management plans to ensure a successful project. Successful project management in complex supply chain environments requires application of well-planned integrated approaches.
LEAP Supply Chain Fundamentals: Supply Chain Management Principles (47 hrs. Online): This course prepares students in the basics of supply chain and supply chain’s roles within organizations. The course includes defining supply chain management and the various domains within supply chain (i.e., customer service, manufacturing and service operations, order management, procurement and supply management, demand planning, inventory management, warehousing operations, and transportation operations). It includes an explanation of how the supply chain supports organizations’ strategic and financial goals. Students enrolled in the GTSCPM certificate program will have 6 months access to the Supply Chain Principles online content.
PD1003 - VET² Plan of Action Development (2 days): This course brings structure and understanding to the chaotic job market by clearly identifying the difference in the military and civilian workforce using organization and leadership theory as a construct for comparison.
It examines the military to civilian transition hurdle that is reflected in the unemployment rates for post-9/11 veterans. It teaches a refined methodology for gathering and processing information from the job search and allows students to develop a clearly defined “plan of action” for successful integration into their new organization. Throughout the course, the students develop their interpersonal communication skills and understanding as they work in small groups on case studies facilitated by the instructor.
The VET² SCPM Certificate program will provide students with:
Credit Hours that may be applied toward PMI’s exam requirments
Qualification to sit for the CSCMP/Department of Labor Supply Chain Principles certification exams (which is free through summer of 2017)
Completion of the Common Learning Block content – for the other 6 CSCMP/Department of Labor Supply Chain certification exams.
