Last month, Yakut Gazi, associate dean of learning systems, and Troy Courville, director of assessment and education insights and interim director of learning design, sat down virtually with Josh Linard, chief revenue officer of Mediacurrent, a website technology partner of Georgia Tech, to talk about remote and online learning in light of the coronavirus pandemic.

Gazi, Courville, and Linard discussed a variety of subjects during the fireside chat webinar. Gazi described the strong state of Georgia Tech’s online structure and activity before COVID-19, with 37% of all enrollments online and a wide range of online program offerings.

Gazi and Courville then explained the effect of COVID-19 and how Georgia Tech’s existing online programs and knowledge aided in the university-wide pivot to online learning. Overall, Gazi said, the faculty and staff’s willingness to learn and share advice was the greatest help. Courville went into further detail about the changes that instructors have had to learn and implement in their teaching methods, as well as how Georgia Tech is preparing for a completely online semester and the uncertain future beyond.

This fireside chat is just one example of Georgia Tech’s continuing attitude of knowledge sharing. Georgia Tech is a leading innovator in the online learning space, but they do not hesitate to share their accrued research and knowledge. Over the many years of their progress in remote and online learning, Georgia Tech leaders have been imparting what they have learned to other university and business leaders around the globe, so that every student and professional has the opportunity to take part in affordable, accessible, quality lifetime learning.
