Biography
Fariborz Farahmand is a research faculty member in the Georgia Tech School of Electrical and Computer Engineering. Fariborz received his master's in structural mechanics from the University of Manitoba, Canada, earned his master's and Ph.D. in computer science from Georgia Tech, and completed his postdoctoral fellowship at Purdue University. The enjoyment he experienced while writing his graduate thesis in both engineering and computer science led him to his current research interests in human-level AI, AI safety and security, AI-related engineering applications, probabilistic reasoning, and cyber-physical systems.
Fariborz is passionate about preparing AI-skilled engineers and leveraging the traditional strengths of engineering disciplines with breakthrough developments in AI. For example, as part of his recent work, 117 engineering undergraduate students, with no related background, successfully used AI Turing Award (Nobel Prize of Computing) winning research in their homework. Fariborz has been the principal investigator of various research projects supported by the National Science Foundation, Air Force Research Laboratory, Department of Homeland Security, and the private sector. His articles have appeared in the leading academic and industry journals, and he has received various awards for his research and teaching. His work has also been adapted and implemented by international organizations around the world.
