Fundamentals of Modern Systems Engineering
This foundational course walks through the systems lifecycle commonly referred to as "cradle to grave," covering concept formulation through system disposal. Notional system projects provide "props" for introducing learners to established systems engineering processes. Individual and group assignments help build a structured and hands-on systems engineering foundation.
Systems Modeling with SysML
This course immerses students in the craft of systems modeling with Systems Modeling Language (SysML). Students will develop a solid foundation in the semantics (i.e. meaning) and syntax (i.e. representation of meaning) of SysMLby learning nine, interrelated diagram types for interpreting models authored in SysML. Students also gain practical experience leveraging leading/bleeding-edge practices from the MBSE community to create well-formed, executable systems models in SysML using the MagicDraw tool and related plugins. The course culminates with a mini team project, where learners will work collaboratively using MagicDraw tool and the companion TeamWork Cloud collaboration, versioning, and model storage tool.
Modeling and Simulation for Systems Engineering
The course introduces students to a range of topics, including modeling and simulation fundamentals, theoretical foundations, methods and methodologies, experimentation and execution, simulation in the systems engineering life cycle, and management. It includes labs that cover different simulation methods (discrete event, agent based, and system dynamic).
System of Systems and Architectures
In this course, students study fundamental systems architecting concepts as a critical part of systems engineering and development. They learn classic methods associated with systems architecting and extend those concepts to complex systems and systems of systems. Students gain hands-on experience by working with tools like SysML and MagicDraw, completing team-based system design projects, and applying MSBE concepts in realistic scenarios.
