Overview

Advanced RF Electromagnetic Warfare Principles – Part A

Course Description

This private offering covers the same content as the first half of DEF 2502P Advanced RF Electromagnetic Warfare Principles, allowing organizations and teams to split this accelerated offering into two courses. The series covers more complex electronic warfare (EW) topics than the basic EW course, utilizing a quantitative, math-focused approach. During Part A, learners will focus on higher-level electronic support topics for emerging radio‑frequency sensor technologies in threat weapon systems, with particular attention paid to radar improvements that lessen the impact of standard jamming approaches. Lectures and discussions are held at the classified level.

Course Content

Multi-channel Radar Receivers

  • Impetus for development of monopulse
  • Use of auxiliary channels for sidelobe suppression
  • Coherent processing

Electronic Support

  • Receiver constraints and challenges
  • Emitter location and tracking
  • Passive detection systems

Specialized Topics in Electronic Warfare (EW)

  • Reduced radar cross section techniques
  • Multi-ship techniques enabled by data links
  • Passive radar systems
  • Over-the-horizon radar

Who Should Attend

Advanced RF Electromagnetic Warfare Principles – Part A and Part B are only available as private offerings. These courses are designed for technical personnel involved with electromagnetic warfare, or radar system design or operations. They would also benefit engineers and managers who handle the specification, procurement, design, development, testing, and operation of electronic attack systems. Attendees should have some familiarity with the radar range equation and basic radio frequency (RF) principles.
