Course Description

Applications in Engineering Mechanics continues on principles mastered in the Introduction to Engineering Mechanics course. This course will help you move beyond the fundamentals to learn modeling and analysis of static equilibrium problems, with an emphasis on real-world engineering systems and problem solving.

How You Will Benefit

Upon successful completion of the course, participants will be able to understand modeling and analysis of static equilibrium problems with an emphasis on real-world engineering systems and problem solving.  In addition students will:

  • Have the ability to draw free body diagrams in analyzing static equilibrium engineering problems.
  • Formulate static equilibrium equations for a rigid body and evaluate member forces in frames, machines, both plane and space trusses, and structures supported by cable systems.
  • Draw Shear Force and Bending Moment Diagrams for multi-force members.
  • Be able to apply Coulomb’s dry friction laws to engineering problems.

Prerequisites

Successful completion of Introduction to Engineering Mechanics is needed to be successful in this course.
