Course Description

Explore machine learning (ML) through hands-on projects grounded in real-world systems and data. This fully experiential course emphasizes practical problem solving over theory, helping learners build and deploy ML models with confidence. Participants will develop end-to-end ML pipelines, analyze real-world case studies, and apply both supervised and unsupervised learning techniques. Through guided exercises, live demonstrations, and capstone projects, learners will gain the tools needed to generate insights, optimize processes, and solve meaningful technical challenges.

Prerequisites

RECOMMENDED:

  • Basic understanding of Python (variables, loops, functions, and packages like pandas and numpy)

REQUIRED:

  • Comfort writing and running Python code in Jupyter Notebooks

    *Don't have experience with Python or PowerBI? We designed the courses to apply to both people with experience and without experience in these programs. We will provide resources for installing and getting started with the programs in the weeks leading up to the course. One week before the course starts, course registrants are invited to a webinar that provides more guidance and direct assistance. During the course, the instructional team will provide the solutions to the exercises so that participants can choose to write the code on their own, leverage the solutions as hints, or use the solutions entirely and focus on the content rather than the coding.

REQUIRED (Student must provide):

  • Personal laptop with Python installed (Anaconda recommended)

PROVIDED (Student will receive):

  • Lecture slides, hands-on exercises, project templates, and datasets in Canvas
