Course Description

This self-paced, online course offers a comprehensive exploration of risk management. Learners will gain insights into risk identification, risk analysis, and effective response strategies while overseeing projects of all sizes.  Emphasis is placed on proactive risk management. This course will also enhance the learner’s ability to plan for risk and communicate this throughout a project. Through a blend of lectures, interactive simulations, and real-world case analyses, attendees will be equipped to anticipate, navigate and mitigate project risk, ensuring better project execution and optimal outcomes. This course is one of four required to earn the GTx Project Management Fundamentals Certificate from edX.

  • Introducing risk management
  • Defining risk and risk management in the context of project management
  • Explaining the significance of risk management in achieving project objectives
  • Identifying different types of project risks, including internal, external, technical, and non-technical ones

Risk Identification

  • Identify projects risks through brainstorming; Strengths, Weaknesses, Opportunities, and Threats (SWOT) analysis; and interviews.
  • Document risks in a risk register with clear statements and breakdown structures.
  • Categorize risks.

Risk Assessment and Analysis

  • Apply qualitative analysis tools like Expected Monetary Value (EMV) to assess risks.
  • Prioritize risks to align response strategies with project goals.

Plan Risk Responses

  • Develop tailored risk response strategies, including avoidance, mitigation, and transfer.
  • Implement contingency and fallback plans effectively.
